Feltwad
The gun making business of Armstrong & Co is a well known firm of Newcastle gun makers, which must not be mistaking for the heavy ammaments manufacturer George Armstrong of Elswick Works Newcastle. Armstrong &Co began in 1894 at 5,.Collingwood Street , Newcastle here they built top quality single and double barrel shotguns in hammer and hammerless and also hammer guns I have examined several of their shotguns in most bore sizes.In1902 they moved too 115-117 Northumberland Street and ceased trading in 1915. Enclosed are some images of a Armstrong sxs boxlock ejector which I purchased over 40 years ago Feltwad Edited February 6, 2016 by Feltwad

figgy
Like the way the maker has mimicked side locks in the cheeks of the stock. Nice locally made gun.
Blackpowder
I have heard those panels described as,'church windows' rightly or wrongly perhaps Feltwad will put me right on that. Blackpowder
Feltwad
I have heard those panels described as,'church windows' rightly or wrongly perhaps Feltwad will put me right on that. Blackpowder I have not heard of these side panels refered to has church windows he in this part of the North-East we call them checking side panels or just plain side windows. This type of checkering is well known to Armstrongs Box locks Feltwad Edited February 7, 2016 by Feltwad
kaunda
These panels are also referred to as ' sunken side panels ',in any case the gun is obviously of high quality.
Feltwad
I bought this gun in the 1960,s from a friend who bought it from Steve Smiths gunshop when it was in Friar Street, Newcastle maybe some of the older PW members can remember Steve Smith and his gunshop.
