Livefast123
After waiting like an eager beaver today, the parcel finally arrived from Kranks with all the reloading supplies needed to feed my Mosin M44. I wasted no time in getting the package open and perusing the machined dies and shiny brass. The Mrs was out, so it would have been rude not to take the opportunity to reload. Decided to go for a PPU 174gr .311 FMJBT bullet from Kranks over a charge of 27.3gr Hodgdons H4895 and a CCI 200 primer. This powder load is from the Hodgdons youth selection, as I have range limits to comply with. After setting up the dies the Lee handpress and other equipment worked as planned and in a few minutes I had a trial batch of ammo to try out my new rifle tomorrow. I really am glad I 'upgraded' to the handpress, autoprime and powder measure, it is a revelation! Can't wait to shoot them now

rem708
Black tiped bullets = Armour Piercing Armour Piercing = potentially section 5! If you put the black tip on I would suggest removing before an over enthusiastic officer of the law takes an interest "5.1A(e)any ammunition for military use which consists in or incorporates a missile designed, on account of its having a jacket and hard-core, to penetrate armour plating, armour screening or body armour;" Otherwise - well done Nice job! Dougy
Will they really think you would be Converting fmj to armour piercing with a marker pen. You are of course having a giggle aren't you. ?
Livefast123
Those sharpies are amazing but I don't think they can convert ammo, it was just for my info, to identify them as youth loads rather than a full rusky boom and the only colour I had was black. If I came across an officer that realised and wanted to have a closer look he could with my blessings rub it off with his wet finger. Underdog
I just noticed some of this ammo going cheap on guntrader mate. And I could not care less what type of bullet you load as long as you enjoy it and don't harm anyone :-)

Vince Green
Looks good. When you have shot them, if you can find some, try 16grns of Alliant 2400. Devestatingly accurate in everything we have tried it in and it will halve your powder cost. My mate shoots foxes with it using a cast bullet! 12grns Unique is great too but only out to 100yds. You have to crank the sights up but it is consistant.
saddler
I'm shortly doing a pip-squeek load with this caliber, or the other name version - the 7.62x53R An approximate copy of a military round. Uses a 70gr FMJ .32ACP bullet & about 6 grains of Bullseye/Unique, etc. WILL be casting for mine in due course too, just need to get more brass first. 2400 is a good powder for all sorts of fun-filled ventures! Livefast123
I keep hearing good things about 2400 and it works well in .44 Mag so would suit my other rifle also. I've got 100 or so 125gr RNFP cast bullets to try with 5 - 6 grains of Titegroup for a 25m plinking load, but the seating die won't seat the bullets, I think they are too short. saddler
2400 was one of the main powders that Elmer Keith used when developing the 44 & 357 magnum cartridges. Try replicating a few rounds of some of his original magnum recipes. Pokey....
Underdog
2400 is great powder. Good in 410, hornet too. It was my fave in 357 when I had one. If you ever find a can oh h4227 that will be good around the 16grn mark too and is also good in pistol/revolver cases.
