jeffjjack
Hi all, trying to decide between two 16g SXS I have, I like them both but cant really justify having the two. Can somebody determine the choke sizing from the proof markings? Baikal 16g Hammer gun J.P. Sauer 16g I have measured the bores but it's hard without the correct equipment to get a decent figure Measurements taken Baikal L= 0.6260" R=0.6535" Sauer L= 0.6315" R=0.6550" From the above and from details online I have got to full and half for both guns? Cheers Jeff
Les53
No matter what it may or may not say anywhere on the gun, the only sure way is to get the chokes and bores measured accurately. A gunsmith will easily be able to look at them for you.
Gunman
As above!
Stonepark
The only way to get the true choking is to pattern it and count the pellets in a 30" circle at 40 yards. Empirical diameter measurements are guides only.
Guest cookoff013
sauer vs baikal ?? i can tell you that the sauer choke markings will not meet the actual choking. ive got a near identical merkel and the chokes are tighter than actually stated. those german guns are virtually the same chassis, boxlock greneer crossbolt double underlug. i`d take the sauer any day. bruno22rf
You could worry yourself into an early grave over Chokes - which one do you prefer x which one you shoot best with is the only real dilemma. Nowt wrong with Baikal BTW - built to a standard far higher than their price might suggest.
dougall
21/2 v 2/3/4 chamber..is that an issue with your chosen cartridges?......as to which to keep surely you have a preference and would of thought which one do you shoot best with over looks.... Taking them both out this weekend with a view to trying both. The issue is that the fit doesn't bother me as I am quite capable of adjustments if required... if the gun doesnt fit then I can make it fit. The Sauer is lovely and is the lighter gun and I wouldn't like to shoot too heavy loads but then again I didnt want a 16g to be shooting 32g through it. The baikal is heavier (6lb 10oz as apposed to 6lb 5oz) but, as expected, the barrels are heavier and as you say larger chambered. Less decorative but I like the feel and look of the hammers Although cartridges are limited all the 70mm carts are either 30 or 32g which (as I said above) wouldn't want to be chucking up them.... if I need that load I'll take the 12 Hmmm... will see... lol maybe get another cabinet and a bank loan rather than sell any
