tuck1
Hello, I know this topic has been done quite a bit, but today I was talking to a gun dealer who tells me that cz barrels are slightly choked and chopping them down can ruin them. He says some people have had disastrous results doing this, for others it works out OK. I know plenty of people on here have had it done, with good results, but has anyone regretted it? I'm guessing the quality of the work is all important, but being left handed my choice of bunny gun is limited to the longer barrelled ones, and I want something nice and handy, (as I will be putting a mod on too.) Opinions welcomed. As an aside, I am quite ambidextrous and have always had right handed rifles in the past, so maybe I should stop messing about and just get a silohouette or something, which I would shoot off the left shoulder and work the bolt with my right hand. Thanks
plexer
I don't believe there is any short of chokeing in a CZ barrel. You would probably need to have it recrowned after chopping. Ben
Peter_HMR
No problem doing it to a CZ lots of people have had it dont whats important is that its done right. Go to an experienced smith who knows how to do it and will do a proper job on the crown

dunganick
I was talking to a gun dealer who tells me that cz barrels are slightly choked Load of old cobblers. I believe older target Brno's were actually choked as were some anschutz so not coblers really given the common mistake made regarding cz and brno Had my cz 452 .22lr varmint choped from 21" to 16" and its not got any better or worse in the accuracy stakes cz's are also tightly bored compaired to alot of .22's its allegedly one of the factors making them so accurate, besides the high quality barrels. Mine is being done right now!!! you bought a cz!?
Oly
Personally I would check with CZ on your specific model. I spoke to Border Barrels and Anschutz about my (Anschutz ) heavy barrel and both said about the choking...and no way am I risking it after having the same advice from two such reputable sources! With the accuracy I have with the Anschutz (plus the choking!) I can be so far away that the rabbits wouldn't hear me anyway!!!
invector
Why not buy the CZ with 16" barrel? Not chopped down, but made by CZ from a shorter billet of steel.
paulus
as long as the bullet does a full revolution and the crowning is re done properly then accuracy should be ok but velocity will be reduced.

B) Not from what Anschutz and Border Barrels informed me about my Anschutz choked barrel...and to be honest, they're about as good as it gets! tuck1
Why not buy the CZ with 16" barrel? Not chopped down, but made by CZ from a shorter billet of steel. This would normally be my plan, however I wanted to treat myself to a left hander and only the longer barrels are available to me. (I also fancied a synthetic stock but they don't do 'em for left hookers). Maybe I could go to the European Court of human rights and put a complaint in! dunganick
you wont experiance any problems cutting a cz 452. No-one i know who hasnt had a poor crown cut has ever suffered any worse accuracy after being cut. fister, i wont mention one of our very first conversations regarding the safety on the cz the cz's are a good honest gun, you shouldnt have too much problem with it. which model and calibre did you get? I think this conclusively answers the question then. The RFD was talking out of his hat!

So it's cobblers.
