Essex Shotgun current waiting times

I live in Essex , applied in Jan 2015, had a letter a couple of weeks later saying it would take 28 weeks which would suggest July/August , in the end I received it in December ,49 weeks later.

While I was waiting I took advice from the Countryside Alliance and contacted my local Police and Crime Commissioner, he referred my complaint to the Chief superintendent for Essex, he contacted me by e-mail to explain why it takes so long ( I could list the reasons out here but very long and boring ) . I then had a visit from the FEO a couple of weeks after that and my SGC was granted. It may or may not make any difference to the waiting time, but it has to be worth raising it with the authorities for the sake of our sport.

I was also told that hundreds of licences have been revoked in Essex due to incidences of domestic violence , maybe this has contributed to the slowdown in grants.

While you are waiting you could go to Graham's clay shoot near Purleigh, he provides everything you need to have a go for a reasonable cost, I found it a good way to get some experience.

Best of luck.

I did the same thing for my FAC as already have a SGC. They don't want to give tickets to anybody like they may have done in the past. Mine was 18th March + 28 weeks. If you don't say anything you'll just be left at the bottom of the big pile.

Well got the phone call today my visit is tomorrow. Phoned up on Monday to see how long it would be, lady in the office was very nice and apologetic, told me I should here from the FEO within a week or so. I think if your polite it goes a long way after all they are only doing there job with very few staff.

When you read that there is a lot of media nonsense and hype in amongst it. Any police force will impound stuff and revoke certs if you go and murder someone with a tool. I like the bit at the bottom >>> Insp Neal Miller, who led the operation, said in future, any incidents where there is a suggestion of the involvement of a licensed firearms holder would be "assessed at the earliest opportunity".

Are they not doing that now? >> suggestion >> earliest opportunity? What does that mean? Next week , month or when.

So much for the automatic section 7 that's supposed to be issued in the event of a cert running out. Saying that, my dad got a S7 on the day his cert expired.

Mostly storage for people who's ticket had run out

Dear All,

we are very aware that this is an important issue, we met with the Essex team this week, see here: http://basc.org.uk/blog/press-releases/latest-news/basc-welcomes-steps-taken-by-essex-police-to-reduce-licence-backlog/

We await to see if the new procedures that are being put in place will have the impact we all want to see

David, did you see my post giving comment from the PCC candidate prior to the election, as he is now elected and had promised to sort this out it may be worth contacting him. Let me know if you need any details.

Thanks ever so, we are working at all levels to try to get this sorted ASAP, but its a massive help to have this commitment from the PCC. We have the contact details by the way, but thank you again for the offer of help
