Geo
I live in Essex , applied in Jan 2015, had a letter a couple of weeks later saying it would take 28 weeks which would suggest July/August , in the end I received it in December ,49 weeks later. While I was waiting I took advice from the Countryside Alliance and contacted my local Police and Crime Commissioner, he referred my complaint to the Chief superintendent for Essex, he contacted me by e-mail to explain why it takes so long ( I could list the reasons out here but very long and boring ) . I then had a visit from the FEO a couple of weeks after that and my SGC was granted. It may or may not make any difference to the waiting time, but it has to be worth raising it with the authorities for the sake of our sport. I was also told that hundreds of licences have been revoked in Essex due to incidences of domestic violence , maybe this has contributed to the slowdown in grants. While you are waiting you could go to Graham's clay shoot near Purleigh, he provides everything you need to have a go for a reasonable cost, I found it a good way to get some experience. Best of luck. Edited April 6, 2016 by Geo

Best of luck. I did the same thing for my FAC as already have a SGC. They don't want to give tickets to anybody like they may have done in the past. Mine was 18th March + 28 weeks. If you don't say anything you'll just be left at the bottom of the big pile.
Normt
Well got the phone call today my visit is tomorrow. Phoned up on Monday to see how long it would be, lady in the office was very nice and apologetic, told me I should here from the FEO within a week or so. I think if your polite it goes a long way after all they are only doing there job with very few staff.
fortune
I was also told that hundreds of licences have been revoked in Essex due to incidences of domestic violence. If this is the case there must be a load of guns and kit up for sale and/or the local dealers shelves must be loaded.

Any police force will impound stuff and revoke certs if you go and murder someone with a tool. I like the bit at the bottom >>> Insp Neal Miller, who led the operation, said in future, any incidents where there is a suggestion of the involvement of a licensed firearms holder would be "assessed at the earliest opportunity". Are they not doing that now? >> suggestion >> earliest opportunity? What does that mean? Next week , month or when. Penelope
So much for the automatic section 7 that's supposed to be issued in the event of a cert running out. Saying that, my dad got a S7 on the day his cert expired. ElvisThePelvis
I applied 11 weeks ago for FAC and received a letter today saying that my application had been received and that due to staff shortages etc applications were taking 40 weeks, crazy that it takes 11 weeks even to acknowledge the application...
