Harnser
As the rape is now well up and starting to flower I decided to give the magnet a go . I have never been a great fan of the magnet although I have had some good days with it on laid cereals . I set the magnet up 20 paces directly in front of the hide and put a dozen funds either side of the magnet in the tram lines . I hadn't been in the hide for more than five minutes when the first bird came in . It flew to the magnet and then jinked off , I was expecting this behaviour with the magnet and killed the bird clean at about 30 yards out to the side of the magnet . The birds started to come in fairly regularly and I was killing them as they jinked to the left or the right . The magnet was doing its job bringing the birds within shooting distance . I was set up at 7-30 am and shot until 11-30 am . I had to get back home as my grand children were coming to visit . I finished up with 38 picked and proberbly an other 6 or so making it off the field . I picked up 49 empty cases and feel that I shot reasonably well . Half a dozen or so clean misses ,not to bad for a blind ,deaf old boy . I was shooting my beretta gas gun and there were probably a few more empties in the hedge row that I missed . Harnser
A great session with some very straight shooting by the sounds of it I shot about 10 that actually went in to the decoys . All the rest went to the magnet and I had anticipated that they would jink at the last second and was on them before they could get out of shot . I find it important to have the magnet in close to the hide so as to give you room for a killing shot when they do jink . Harnser

Harnser I would agree, threre are exceptions of course but generally a magnet placed close in will allow for birds flaring from it.
