bornfree
I've been having problems with crow type targets lately so I purchased a auto trap to practice with. Took it up the farm this afternoon and set it up. I just could not miss started about 30 yards and moved back finished at around 70 yards hitting 24 out of 25. So I've learned nothing. Will see tomorrow if it happens in a reg shoot.
Exudate
Forgive me, but what exactly do you mean by crow type targets?
bornfree
Ones which go up slightly incoming and hang before dropping.
Glenlivet
If it's on your mind it will happen! Having only missed two birds on the first two stands at the BASC gamekeepers' fair (good for me) I missed 50% of the seemingly easy roosting crows (as did many others). Distance + false horizons + distractions (trees etc) can play a part. Is your problem always at the same venue? If so look more closely at the lie of the land. You must be seriously competitive to buy a trap to sort a problem...... Edited April 30, 2016 by Glenlivet

jonny thomas
I quite often lose this kind of target if it's coming from a tree line or hedge Yellow/orange tinted glasses may help
Son Of Potter
sounds like your shooting over the top bornfree?. How could you possibly tell that from a post on an internet forum?
figgy
If you look online some very good videos on how to shoot crow type clay targets along with others
bornfree
I think my problem is range finding. When practicing I started close and moved back so I knew to shoot a bit further under it each time, but Sunday in a competition I was just as bad. Guest stevo
+ 1, I was thinking the same. I think ( could be wrong ) what Ken is saying is , that as the target peaks he is taking the shot a fraction too late , therefore the clay has just started to drop and so he will be shooting over the top of it , a bit like shooting a springing teal as it peaks , if you wait till it stops and its a good 45-50 yrds away you want to be shooting just under it , not at it . that said we al have different sight pictures , but I have seen soooo many shooters do it .
