shooterman49
hi all, anyone run a ford ranger (06). mine has developed a cooling fault and its driving me mad trying to find the source . I am constantly having to top up the coolant even after shortish runs . have checked all hoses etc and cant find any obvious leaks. put it into the local garage and had the thermostsat replaced at there recommendation, still loosing coolant so went back in, system drained and refilled and run up to temperature no obvious leaks. has been suggested the head gasket might be going but no emulsivication in the oil. can anyone offer any advice as its driving me mad, regards pete. Doggone
Had to have a new rad on mine. The sides started bulging with the pressure. Andy.
scutt
If the system has an overflow tube place a bottle on the end and see if its filling up from the system if it could be either rad pressure cap at fault or excess pressure build up from cyl head. Saltings
sounds like head gasket has gone try running it with a loose rad cap for a day or two so the gasses can escape should sort out overheating forgot to add check that the water is circulating properly as the water pump impeller can spin on the shaft and cause it to boil up in a short time after starting Edited May 23, 2016 by Saltings

Hendrix's rifle
The garage should be able to test the head gasket with a blue fluid. Goes in effectively a 1 way valve Into a bottle with said fluid in it, turns green/lime if head gaskets on its way. Picks up the gasses 👍

Hendrix's rifle
No worries, if your around Holmes chapel I can take a look if needed. Does sound like head gasket if I'm honest :( is there any damp spots on the floormats in the car? Just out of interest

shooterman49
Used the head gasket fluid (simular to radweld) and it seems to have slowed the rate of leakage down. Will still get it in to a garage and have the head gasket done when I can afford it. Thanks for all your advice guys.
