naddan28
Hi lads, been wanting to get a SGC for a while now after having shot 2 carts out of an AYA on the farm. So today I thought I would go down to Greenfields, Kent as on a sunday they do £10 for 25 carts, clays and a bit of instruction. I had no clue what to expect really but thought I would be a good, cheap way of knowing what I was getting myself into prior to applying for a SGC! Went down to greenfields, filled in a registration form, paid the £10 and was handed a box of 12G sub 28g no7's fibres and told to choose one of two traps. Got to the trap watched the others while qeuing and then came my turn! Bloke was reasonably friendly asked whether "I had done it before?" and then explained how to stand point the gun at the tree line, both eyes open and shoot. Then proceded to lauch the first clay, which I shot then the next and showed me how to break the gun, while he removed the carts and reloaded for me. The clays to be honest were pretty easy, one at a time coming from my side straight up at a reasonable speed. I hit 16/25 which I'm happy with, being completely new to the sport, the gun i used was a beratta 687e (I think that was the right model) and as for the gun, it was beautiful! not only the word work but the weight too. So now unfortunately I think I'm really hooked so need to do some overtime and will hopefully get myself some lessons with the ground book 5 and get the 5th free and then probably convince the gf that buying a nice beretta or browing etc is a good idea! Before I started shooting she was against fox shooting, rabbits and corvids. Now she consedes that there are cases for all and would like to go on a game shoot. So I have promised when I get my cert I will take her clay shooting and then if she wants, I am sure she will be invited to attend her family driven shoot. As one of her cousins owns a few farms with conservation area's where he runs a pheasant shoot for 'friends and family' 2 or 3 times a year. As for her outshooting me, I couldn't take that, so will give her a .410 with 2.5" subs lol make life as difficult as poss!
Ferret Master
naddan you're too kind! Give her some 2 inchers. Why did they only give you subs today? I can only presume it was because they didn't want people getting knocked about. FM

FM :o I imagine so as I am a beginner, unless they felt my 6ft 14stone body couldn't take it Considering I was expecting the same kick that I got from the farmer's old AYA with 36g's in, it felt there was almost no recoil at all. Was also shocked at the lightness of the gun too, probably heavier than my lightning.

njc110381
16/25 is good going, well done! I only shot clays to learn how to lead etc before taking on the live quarry. I've always liked to try targets before aiming at anything with feelings. Now I clay shoot loads, it's so addictive! Keep at it, and good luck on the harder birds

naddan28
Lol, Greenfields is in sturry just outside canterbury. Let me know if you lot go will come along just to watch and learn a few tips from the PW masters. Plus, if I come thats one more toward the magic 8! LB, will let you know about the 27th, doubt I will shoot as I won't have had any lessons etc by then so wont be able to hit anything! Will be pointless to just stand at the stands throwing lead in the air, while clays sail past happily! Dan

Get her interested my lad!! :o Well she might be interested, plus it will half the cost of lessons for me should I take any! Just been to work, after me winging for a week that I want to work 40hrs (only normally do saturday) I have been offered a job in the cash office (cushty ) which will hear back on by fri and two other jobs so I will be making that shotgun application ASAP! Also my gunshop had some nice OU's starting at £130 so wont break the bank either, hell I might even get a FAC Air Rifle to go in my nice new cabinet, can't having the gun getting lonely can we? LB will let you know if I can make it but I dont have a gun or even a SGC (so cant borrow one) which may make shooting somewhat difficult?? Unless I take the trusty air rifle? You and 5 or so none SGC holders that I take on a regular basis. A police approved ground has a licence for such situations, after all, they let you shoot 25 and they know nothing about you The offers open if you want to tag along Naddan. naddan28
Thanks LB, so I can hire/borrow a gun from greenfields without having a SGC? If so then champion, will come along sunday if your still going and the invite is still there? You will have to bare with me though as its my second crack at the clays, first being this very thread! Hope all is well, Dan
