ChrisAsh
You can buy nearly everything on the internet, except it seems replacement woodwork for your shotgun By that i mean, why can you not find anyone selling ready made wood work for the main shotgun makes, you would have thought there would be a great market for upgarded stocks, etc ready made for upgrading your loved gun There may or may not be much trimming to fit perfectly, but i imagine that the factories who turn out the stocks make them all very acuratly so no extra work need s doing There are plenty of small companies who will sell blanks or even make them up for you but as one off's at greatly increased cost Many must buy a grade 1 or 2 gun at their limit of expence at that time and a few years later feel it would be nice to get better wood Is this a deliberate ploy by makers to make you by their higher grade guns
B25Modelman
Perhaps also when they show a gun with exhibition grade wood, they should supply them as such. Many do not. There's an interesting youtube video showing a few areas within the Belgium Browning factory, in particular the wood dept, where they say exhibition grade wood (5) adds £3k to the cost. It also shows most of the stocks pre-machined. Edited July 31, 2016 by B25Modelman

chris1961
I would love a better bit of wood on mine
welshwarrior
There isn't a big enough market in this country for most makes to do a 'mass produced' cnc option so that leaves the manufacturer/importer they would rather sell you a new gun, so they price it out for example nearly the price of the gun or like BWM won't do matching sets any more. ChrisAsh
what a sad statement, but probably very true I don't agree with the lack of need, I imagine many would be happy to spend £400-500 for up graded wood on their most used gun unless its got it already
welshwarrior
£400-500 doesn't buy a decent high grade blank let alone a finished stock
Old farrier
It's not hard to upgrade the wood If you bought a grade 1..2 gun and want to do it However the upgraded wood will Proberably be a tad denser or heavier so Ballance is affected plus if your having it upgraded have it fitted to your measurements and for the type of shooting your doing with the gun £700. To £3000 for a bit of wood Plus making fitting finishing plus vat Had a couple done there's a thread or two on here about it All the best Of Here you go This is the before Edited August 1, 2016 by Old farrier
ChrisAsh
I was not really thinking of bespoke stocks but just copies of the more popular guns like 686 or 524 models.where the basic wood is so plain and similar guns from Italy or Turkey have much better wood. As you say you can get bespoke done at much higher cost, but if for instance you want to upgrade a silver pigeon you seem to be stuck unless you sell the gun and spend a lot more dosh Edited August 2, 2016 by ChrisAsh
welshwarrior
But what I'm saying is you don't get a nice blank for £400 so your looking at blowing the budget before the blank has been worked on.
