Jaymo
Got some awkwardly placed powder residue on one of the pistols- what's good for its removal and readily available? As in- DIY cleaning product or something household Cheers

Jaymo
Thank you Sir. The reason for the 'DIY' removal request is our location in France means some items/brands are not easily obtainable.

steve_b_wales
Hoppes 009 is excellent. I used to use it when cleaning my pistols, in the good old days when they were legal to own.
Jaymo
Thanks Steve- I thinks I have some of that, it's the revolver that suffers the most with its compensated barrel and my lack of discipline in attacking it as soon as I return from the range. Yep, still fortunate to be able to shoot/ hold Pistols over here

TONY R
Was debated at length on American waterfowler 10 or more years ago 10 pages or more threw up this as the part of the attached article which is is, D-20265 or later. And they decided for kerosene the part number when i researched it it came up as houshold central heating fluid over here, Frogs home made gun lube states 50% ATF 50% kerosene i go with that. start buying lanolin etc its getting too complicated and the 50 50 mix shifts carbon. I use 50% coma or castrol DEX ATF and 50% central heating fluid out the tank in my back yard.
fortune
I mixed up some fluid for my own use only the other day. it isn't the official Ed's Red but my version cleans and protects well. I mixed roughly equal parts of white spirit, cellulose thinners, ATF and a small amount of a high spec synthetic oil. It all mixes well and it really cleans the crud out of the barrels and leaves them like a mirror. PS I labeled up the bottle because it looks like Ribbons. Not that anyone would want to drink it.
