four-wheel-drive
She hit the rear brakes as she was coming into the bend and the bike lost grip, she then hit the brakes up front and the bike lost it. I also thought she had a mechanical or something coming in to the corner but from the slowmos, it looks like she was going a bit too hard and the brakes lost it. Looking at the slow motion film she seemed to be sliding sideways then suddenly flipped over even before she hit the gully most strange I do not understand how that guy could just stand there filming here not that he could have done much as they always say its better to leave it to the medical people as you can do more harm than good if you do not do things properly. I've worked as a 'tog in sports events during college and a couple of times I've been the first to a scene of an accident (horse racing mainly). Did I lose some pics? Absolutely. Do I care about that? No way. Can't understand people who can keep on shooting when someone is lying hurt in front of you. I'm don't even have first aid training so didn't do much but keep them company until the ambulance arrived. Davyo
It looks similar to when you lose grip on a motorbike and then the rear digs in again and just flips you off.Very nasty crash & as prev said the corners could of done with some sort of bail out system (that's one big curb to hit at any angle) Edited August 8, 2016 by Davyo
Scully
While I sympathise for the cyclist and wish her a full and speedy recovery, she will like many others probably have recce'd the course prior to racing and possibly even if she seemed it dangerous still chose to take part, knowing full well that she wouldn't get another chance of glory for four years. Now what puzzles me is that whomever sees to these things has had four years since the last olympics, to choose a circuit and iron out any problems. Someone somewhere must have checked the circuit in the four years prior to the race , and consulted so called experts....mustn't they?
