roadkill
How is everyone doing? Mine were coming on well and was just getting them switched over to wheat when today i noticed the symptoms of gape in two pens So had to change some plans and get to the vet and have now treated all water in all of the pens with or without symptoms.. Hopefully i caught it quickly and whilst most are still in or around the pens
kennett
So far so good, grown very well and lost relatively few. Not wandering, but could do with a few getting out of my smaller pen as it is getting a bit tired. Wheat arrives next week, will have nearly used up my 3t of pellets, but should last a couple more weeks. Do you use medicated feed?
roadkill
Yes put 1/2 tonne if medicated down when I first had the birds. How many roughly do you put down and what age are they
kennett
We put 1000 down over two pens, got them the 1st weekend in August so 11/12 weeks old now. It could have been the switch to wheat that left them a bit stressed and more vulnerable to disease, I also regularly move my feed and water to stop the ground getting too dirty. The wormers are usually fairly effective and clear it up no problem.

Hopefully i caught it quickly and whilst most are still in or around the pens If your just changing over then I take it the birds will still go for pellet, probably picking it out first? If so mix panacur with pellet and hand feed onto some dry areas along with wheat, if most of your ground is damp then corrugated sheet or similar works well as you can flip it over, this way you can be sure to 'catch' as many birds as possible, worming the water source is never going to be 100% successful once the birds are out and whilst the weather is wet on occasion. Scully
On driven shoot pheasants have been a pain to keep from wandering by all accounts; and on rough shoot we are still seeing occasional very young chicks skulking about. Too much cover to really get an idea of how that's going to do, but cover crops look fabulous!

But due to the rain today there all over the estate seeking sun, talk about timing when i wanted them around the pens to drink the medicated water. Only time will tell now on how they all do and what kind of a season we will have Edited September 10, 2016 by roadkill
Nmb
Our pheasants are in great shape and should be in good condition for our let day on the 1st of October. They are wandering a fair bit more than normal however they are really strong flying birds so will have to wait and see how it all works out. Partridges are looking well and holding around the pens, first shoot next Saturday so hoping for a good day. leadbreakfast
Panacur I was told should be put in bird's water @ 50mg/ litre. Panacur 10% has 100mg in each ml - 5% has 50mg & 2.5% has 25mg/ml.
kennett
I always use it at 1ml/l. Shut the header tanks off and give it to them in trays.
roadkill
4 days in and birds are looking good, 2 more days then back to water! Last bags of pellets going in the feeders tomorrow. Most birds seem happy in the wheat and having to fill them up daily
gizzard
The 10% add 1ml per litre so 4mill per litre at 2.5 % sounds good, can overdosing cause side effects with panacur. steve.
