Dougy
Think I'd better stop I thought I would try some cfe 223 and then I thought I had better stop and re-evaluate. This was 1.4 grain below max. Blimey at that rate the bullet will be there before the powders burnt. Scales are good before anyone asks. SPARKIE
that's moving some... but is it stable? grouping? have ya had any issues with the chrono not picking the bullet up? are they the 17grainers? Dougy
27.4 !!!!!! Recommended start is 25.8. !!! These were nosler custom brass, quite allot less capacity than the remington brass I started with. My original load that is good was 25.5 of Varget, but I fluffed up with the resizing, lost a good number of brass. So replaced with the only ones I could get at the time. I fully understand what happens with different brass, but blimey that's a BIG difference. Max charge at 27.4 only gives 4470 fps

Just the one hole amazing !!!!! What do you think ? I know I have a bit of a reputation but I ain't that daft. 20 grain vmax. Chronograph was picking up correctly. neutron619
Barrel? ... will be burnt to a cinder within about 250 rounds I should think! Impressive though.

It will certainly not be a regular occurrence Barrel? It made me scratch my head a little, it just has to be the smaller capacity of the case, I know that the small rounds are very pressure sensitive, but the powder weight was 5% below max I was surprised at such a high increase in velocity. That's 500 fps above max charge. I will try a full 2.5 grains below and see what results I get. Edited September 24, 2016 by Dougy
Grandalf
What I meant by 'Barrel?' was the length and twist.
Dougy
What I meant by 'Barrel?' was the length and twist. 24" and 1 -9 The 25.5 of Varget with 20grn vmax at 4200 > 50 < fps, was ok and as per book velocity wise . Another reason for my head scratching.
casts_by_fly
The 17's are twitchy when reloading. I wouldn't have predicted that either, but I'm not surprised. At least it wasn't catastrophic. How does the primer look? Thanks Rick

casts_by_fly
Yeah, I'd say you were a bit over pressure. Back to the starting load and work up in 0.2 increments. Rick

TONY R
I never tried any 30s in my old middlestead but this load always intreagued me, i only have a .22250 in .22 these days so simply not an option for me anymore. Dougy
As far as the chrono goes it's not the issue as other loads are an acceptable velocity as per book. I will see what it's like with different case's.
