Teal
In most of the pigeons I shot the other day I saw these berries which varied from reddish brown to black and to even a green tinge, they are hard. I was just wondering what kind of berries these were please see photo attached. Obviously the bulk of the diet for these with no oilseed rape grown in the area is clover. Cranfield
Some of them certainly look like ivy berries. They could all be ivy berries in various shades of "ripeness". Looking at the berries in our garden, they cover the colour range you describe, also the size of the berries vary on the same sprig.
red_stag88
I shot a pigeon out of an ivy bush this afternoon, probably eating the same sort of stuff.
ollie
Around where i live ivy berries is almost the only thing pigeons eat, but i haven't seen them that dark.
Pigeon_decoyer
Same here thats all they tend to feed on? There's a nice rape field on the other side of this hedge row i shoot and the ivy berries are in the hedge and they are always all over the berries! Vermin Dropper
They look like ivy berries to me, I shoot over rape, there is tonnes of it round here, but a lot of the birds with full crops are full of clover and berries.
