snipers eye
hi folks,if a rifle scope cannot be brought back to get a suitable eye relief, could i cut off about 1 1/2" off the stock?(dont want to change rings and bases, cost to much)its synthetic stock,in doing so would that affect accuracy in any way?thanks
iano
hi folks,if a rifle scope cannot be brought back to get a suitable eye relief, could i cut off about 1 1/2" off the stock?(dont want to change rings and bases, cost to much)its synthetic stock,in doing so would that affect accuracy in any way?thanks what stock? what gun? I've done this with air rifles and it had no impact on accuracy. I've messed about with .22 stocks and have seen this sometimes muck up the gun. Heavier calibres, I would be very slow to altering the stocks. Could you not sort something with a picatinny rail? Run the scope back further on that? iano
Groups blew out from sub half inch to over 1.5. No idea why - putting it back into a 'real' stock fixed the problem. Assumed it was something to do with the harmonics
welshwarrior
It's some thing call gun fit just like a shotgun you shoot best with a well fitting rifle. Other issue is some plastic stocks are hard to shorten as reattaching a pad is difficult.
snipers eye
thanks guys,so if i shorten the stock(i know LOP will also be shortened)and eye relief is fixed,i should be ok?........as far as refitting the butt pad,a piece of wood glued in and drilled for screws should fix that bit,or one of those slip over jobs. sportsbob
How about this type of mount? no matter how much you want to use the mount or rings you have if they are not fulfilling the purpose then get something that does
Breastman
That scope has a listed eye relief of 3.1-3.6" and there is tons of room on its body for moving it back/forward, not sure how you've managed this, especially on a standard rifle like a Rem 700 Its not a 'scout' version or something is it with the mounting points/rail way forward of the action?
