foxshooter69
Just acquired this little beauty off a very good friend of mine, is there any way of identifying the make and model, thanks
Vince Green
What a little beauty! Almost certainly not a make model type of gun, it would have probably been sold by one of the gunsmiths as part of their 'value' range for a boy's first gun. As it has no UK proof marks its harder to know. If its the age I think it is it should have been proofed in UK as well If it had a name it would most likely have been on the top rib Have a look at these http://www.hunting.be/wp-content/uploads/Belgian-Proof-Marks.pdf Edited January 2, 2017 by Vince Green
panoma1
Belgian gun, proof marks are from the Liege proofhouse for black powder only!
Vince Green
Belgian gun, proof marks are from the Liege proofhouse for black powder only! not quite so sure about that because it appears to have a date code of "S" which is 1940 but that in itself is odd

I reckon it was made well before 1940? Edited January 2, 2017 by panoma1
foxshooter69
Thanks for the replies, does anyone know what the stamp of the diamond shape with the 12, M,C is for? Also is there anyway of dated it?
panoma1
Thanks for the replies, does anyone know what the stamp of the diamond shape with the 12, M,C is for? Also is there anyway of dated it? This is a mark usually denoting the nominal bore of the gun, but a 12 in the diamond on a .410 beats me!!! A "c" in the diamond usually denotes the barrel is choked! As for the "m" that also stumps me!...........I doubt you will be able to date it with any accuracy?
FatFreddysCat
Only thing I can add to previous posts is that the 10.4 is the bore size in mm.

As the black powder definitive proof mark could also be used for military nitro and that the diamond 12 doesn't make sense, could this have been some form of military calibre? Andy H
If the star S is an inspectors mark the earliest date is 1952 for that mark but the inspectors list does not give any details for the 1800's but if it's a date mark 1940, There is no nitro proof mark on the barrels that I can determine also the diamond with 12 c m in it is a strange one the diamond was used until 1924 after that it was an open ended oval with gauge and chamber length in it ie 410 65 not marked as a 12bore as your's is. My 410 sxs hammer gun is from 1927 and has the expected makings on it .
