Torridon.

My Fiance and I are having out honeymoon at the Torridon Hotel, on Loch Torridon in Wester Ross in July, so I just wondered if anyone had any ideas on places the visit or sights to see whilst we are there.

A lot of beautiful places around there, including the lovely drive over the Applecross pass.

This is Tam's area of expertise - worth sending him a PM if he doesn't come on here, know he and his good wife have visited here before (we met at the charity shoot last year and were talking about the area)

Had a look at the Applecross pass; thinking of having a meal at the Applecross Inn.

Love it in Torridon, we go up a lot climbing and heading out on the hills, As Mac has said head over the 'pass of the cattle' to Applecross, the food in the Inn was always worth a look. Great seafood spot a Kishorn too.

However without a shadow of a doubt one of the best meals ive eaten is slap bang in Torridon, head along the side of the loch to a little place called Inveralligin.

A dutch couple set up a little resturant in the old school house, worth booking as it only has about 15 covers, seafood straight out of the loch, a real kind of Rick Steins seafood heros place! Inveralligin is also where much of the filming for Loch Ness was filmed too.

Bit further afield but if you wanted a decent rideout then youre not that far really from the Kyle and a nip over to Skye or a look to Poolewe.

It's a honeymoon, so I'll doubt I'll be at the 'flee'.

Although, just looking at the activities list, there is a local ghillie who can be arranged from the hotel's activity centre.

The whole area is so scenic and if you are into fishing the rivers are something else.

Would recommend a wee trip East to the Rogie Falls as July should be literally jumping with salmon and sea trout.

Its ' The pass of the Cattle' I drove up it in my 1977 MGB GT over 10 years ago. Fortunately there is an alternative exit route or my wife would have walked back down rather than go by car. Its a bit more awesome than the Wryenose in the Lake District. Enjoy.

Take lots of midge repellant. Other lubricants may also be required.

This, my brother in law had a house not far from the hotel, so have spent a bit of time there, the midges can be brutal.

What is also brutal is how cold loch torridon is, no matter how warm the weather is, the tide is ferocious too.

Trip to Skye?
