Davva
Hello guys, Is it possible to find the date of manufacture or registration of a shotgun using the serial number? I cannot find a date for my gun anywhere. Cheers, David

Blackpowder
Depends on the maker, some firms still retain records dating back to the 19th century. Blackpoowder
seeker
Good starting place for proof marks ..there may be easier ways depending on the make and age. http://www.shotguns.se/index.html
Davva
Maker was D Watson & Co of Inverness - has a 4-digit serial number beginning with 6. Like this: 6*** The proof marks are NP - Birmingham 1904-1954. The maker was alive 1834 to 1923 & The company stayed active until 1957. Quite a big window. kevin55
Per Nigel Brown: D Watson & Co at 19 Inglis Street, Inverness 1922-approx 1940 Trading as Donald Watson 1890-1901, Watson & Co 1905- circa 1920
wymberley
You should be able to approximately halve that window, 1925 being the tipping point. Is there a chamber length given?
HDAV
Also the inspectors mark may narrow the window
