nel67
hi all,was just wondering about your experiences with gunfit regarding semi autos.my first semi was a hatsan which i shot fine with but needed a more reliable gun,so i bought myself a beretta teknys, after several misses of normal range woodies i decided to pattern the gun,it was then i found i shot low with the gun,i raised the stock with the shim and bought a slip on comb raiser but still shot a tad low.which i couldnt understand why.my beretta had the same length barrels as the hatsan (28"),i have just sold my beretta via gunwatch and getting myself a beretta outlander but this time with 26" barrels.iam just wondering how many members have had to tweek their semi auto or managed to shoot fine with it straight from the box. Gordon R
I suspect most shooters just put up with the fit. Many autos are short in the stock or too low in the comb.
Walker570
When you patterned it did you 'aim' it, like you would a rifle ? How low was the pattern? Not wishing in any way to doubt your shooting ability but are you certain it was the gun? With a pigeon at 35yrds, you have to be a long way off to miss completely as the pattern should be 30 inches, even with full choke. Anyway you have sold the gun and hopefully your new one will 'aim' better. Remember 98% looking at the bird, 2% at the barrel.
HDAV
Also the barrel length won't affect the fit only the balance there are a few semis out there with adjustable combs as well as the shims probably worth a visit to an Instructor and some clays rather than just keep changing the gun
nel67
hi walker570,it was definitley the gun,i aimed like a rifle then mounted, pointed and fired all in one motion so to speak,i class myself as a decent shot and after 4 or 5 misses i knew it was the gun or should i say "gunfit".the gun was fired several times at paper with a tennis ball size target painted on it the pattern was all underneath with a couple of shot hitting the target,i tried this with full and quarter choke.tweeking the gun helped but still resulted in many "unclean kills".fingers crossed i manage better with 26" barrels. TIGHTCHOKE
I've Shot mine straight from the box, had it a long time now, just one of those old unreliable Hatsan Escorts you all love to moan about. I gave the shims away to someone else who needed them. It does have a 24" barrel though.

But everyone knows unless you have a 40 inch triple ported side ways bored badger lined barrel you aren't doing it properly. Guest cookoff013
its gunfit. my benelli is the same, needed a bigger length of pull. same as all the guns i use, in the summer my miroku sometimes needs a pad. when i patterned it to find poi, before too high, after just right. this was confirmed with a trap type target, launched and waited until it got 30 yards and hit at 40yards.
