Big Dog
As you may know I bought a new 6.5X55 SM. Had it for a month and never fired a shot yet as I have not got my scope yet. Anyway, my FAC says 6.5MMX55 Here is a question for you! What does the MM stand for

Big Dog
tulkyuk give me some credit M8. I shoot 6.5x55 at the range, I know 6.5 is the bullet dia, and 55 the lenght of the case as with all european cartridges. What I was unsure of was I have never seen a 6.5 labled with the MM after the 6.5, as in: 6.5MMX55 I alway seen it 6.5X55 or if it had been 6.5X55MM that I would have got. Useless bit of blog: This is the calibre that they shot President Kennedy with, did you know that And b4 any other wise cracks I was only a wee kid then
Graham M
Actually the bullet diameter is 6.7mm the 6.5mm refers to the diameter of the bore. The bullet needs to be oversized to ensure complete obturation. G.M.

tulkyuk
Sorry Big Dog - i just assumed you had seen a rifle for sale and said "thats the 1 i'll have" without really knowing what it was you were getting - a lot of so called shooters do this kind of thing, just so they can say they have got a big rifle. again i opplogise and hope you do well with it - damn good rifle for shooting deer with. Dunkield
I was talking to a shooter at Minsterley he was looking at my 6.5x55, I said he had a nice rifle (good chat up line ) he said it is a 6.5x57 and offered me a shot with it. I had never heard of it before, but there are loads of 6.5 calibres when you look: 6.5 Gibbs 6.5 Grendel 6.5 Japanese 6.5 PPC 6.5 Roberts Improved 6.5 WSM 6.5-06 6.5-06 Ackley Improved 6.5-284 Norma 6.5-284 Winchester 6.53 Scramjet 6.5-300 WSM 6.5mm Mannlicher Schoenauer 6.5mm Remington Magnum 6.5mm Remington SAUM 6.5mm STW 6.5mm-08 6.5x50R 6.5x52 Carcano 6.5x55 Ackley Improved 6.5x55 Mauser 6.5x57 Mauser 6.5x58 Portuguese Mauser 6.5x65R RWS 6.5x68 RWS To name but a few Try buying ammo for some of those and see how far you get! Dunkield
From what I have read it is incredably accurate long range cartridge In fact the bloke that shot the 3 stags on Arran with the BASC used one.
Vegeta
The 6.5mm (or 6.7mm) round has a very high BC which is why its so popular with long range shooting. stopping power of the .308 is better but this is a bullet weight thing rater than an accuracy thing
