The Wileman's
Do any of you use bipods for your air rifles? Just curious as i have been out today for the first time with my airrifle to try and get the scope zeroed in and found myself moving a fair bit. Advice is welcomed
Cyber
I assume you are using it on a PCP? I have one on my Air Ranger and you will probably find that whilst you breath in and out it will move quite alot. I have found that the best position to shoot in with a bipod is in the prone position (lying down). Because the butt of the rifle is rested mor on the top of the shoulder rather than on the front, you can get a seriously steady shot. Most of the time I can keep it steady for aslong as I want. SNAKEBITE
I have found that the best position to shoot in with a bipod is in the prone position (lying down). Well unless you have short legs or the pod legs are very long I would suggest this is the only way Joking aside, pods are very useful. I find them a God send when laying up near a warren. I can bring the gun to bear with minimum movement and take a shot. Just don't try them on a springer
pin
Best way to shoot off a 'pod from prone is to use the spare hand to make a fist and place it under the butt of the rifle. With practice you can make your fist smaller and larger as required. Much more steady than it floating about in your shoulder, trust me

I have a springer and im just curious as to whats the best way to steady my aim?
BSA Shaun
THe best way is to lay prone with one hand under the stock. Or sitting crouched, with one leg up in front of you bent to rest the rifle stock on your knee. Or use what is available to you, i.e rest against a tree etc. Hard to explain the second one but I know what I mean!

Due to springers recoil, as the gun recoils a bipod can stop it from recoiling properly, which gives erratic groups, bipods on CO2 and PCP are fine as these mechanisms do not recoil. Hope this makes sence

ShaggyRS6
Yep, I agree with Pin. That's what I do, make a fist and put it under the but. I also like using the mono pod. I have proven to myself that I am compitant upto 40 yards free stading with a heavy rifle. I have noticed that you have to be more acurate with the .177. I enjoy it alot more, but find myself using the Bipod more. I love the whistle of the pellet over 40 yards, and then the bug thud.

Oh no, but there is a bit of a debate about which calibre is best. .22, a mans calibre, non of that mamby pamby fiddly oh I can't deal with wind malarkey, if you hit one with a .177 first they will laugh and then swipe your picnic basket If you don't have a bi-pod and want to double check then use a cushion or a fishing bank stick. Edit with a pcp Edited June 7, 2007 by jerico
