Evil Elvis
I was lamping/nv shooting on a farm in suffolk tonight, walking round I got the poop scared out of me by at least 20-30 pheasants and untold partridges, but i also had the starnge feeling i was being watched. At the end of one feild I saw a pair of eyes at my eye hieght, pooooper goes(yes i know I had a gun in my hand, its as dark as tar over there) anyway, it went out of sight but they kept popping up every so often, finally i was walking down a thin mowned grass lane in amougst a load of bushes and to my right a load of pheasants flew up then the eyes appeared, i was frozen to the spot, they got so close that I could see the owner.....a bloody great big stag, i heard a crack of a twig behind me and there was another one!!!!!! We had a bit of a stand off, and then he simply grazed the grass!!!! i turned and left him to it! Im not really a scardy cat but Im not used to coming face to face with such big beasties in the pitch black !!!!!!

SNAKEBITE
I had a bowel loosening moment with a badger once, amazing how much noise they make! Deer are curious beasts, I had one come upto me, quite close really. I kept very still and she kept coming towards me, stopping, bobbing her head and repeating the process. The moment I moved off she shot barking away! Amazing how quick they move. Mind you this was during daylight hours so it was that frightening. Cranfield
I can sympathise, as a 14 year old I was sitting under a disused three arch railway bridge, in the middle of nowhere. The old track went under the middle arch and the other arches were up the steep embankment either side. I was under one of the upper arches, about 20 yards above the railway line on a moonlit night. There was a fox earth on the opposite side and I had seen the fox walk up the line to its earth, about that time of night. I could smell the fox, but couldn't see it and in the dead quiet I had every sense stretched. Then an owl flew under the arches and shrieked..........................I don't think my feet touched the ground until I was about 300 yards up the fields. Gonna Shoot a Wabbit
Dead eye duck and i were out with our old mate in shropshire. There was no moon that night and it was black as pitch. We sorted the gear at the car and moved off towards the first gate you could barely see your hand in front of you. Our old mate was on the lamp and as we got to the gate he switched on the lamp to find himself face to face with a horse literally inches from his face never seen a grown man move that quick back to the car. He was a shivering wreck HA HA!! of course dead eye duck and i did the appropriate thing with a comrade in distress and collapsed into peals of laughter. Evil Elvis
aint you married then sad2.gif tongue2.gif tongue2.gif Yeah, and Id put my money on her!lol. The moment I moved off she shot barking away im glad you said that it reminded me, i kept her a low barking sound...that explains it. While on the subjest of sounds, i tried to stalk the hares on the farm yesterday, there are a lot of them, and kept hearing a high pitched whistle, is that the hares? M ROBSON
I've walked out in the pitch black through the 14ft high reeds along the Tay Estuary when Roe deer jump up at your feet and go crashing away. It's a bit of a brown trouser experience! Mark.
verminer
some of my permission is adjecant to a Safari Park, and i was out lamping with a friend of mine one night and as we was walking down a gully something knocked and pushed passed me it shrieked and then it shot up into the trees moving from tree to tree very very fast. at the time my mate said it was a owl but i wasn't hanging around to find out as it was time to go home and change my underwear!!!. next day the local radio reported that a baboon had been shot in the local park half a mile from where we were shooting the night before. i can't say it was a baboon for sure but owls don't push you out the way do they?
