Wood (ramier) pigeon

The birds are tethered and some have their wings clipped.

There are normally, two birds either end of a perch (a bit like a budgies swing) and they are hoisted by rope pulleys into the tops of the trees.

 

When pigeons are seen nearby, the pigeons are encouraged to flap their wings (I think by jerking the string).

They are used in fixed locations, with the pulley systems as permanent fixtures.

 

I have never heard of them being used on crops or open fields, only woodland.
