The safest bet is to check with your Airline, as there appear to be varying requirements, on anything out of the ordinary.

I brought back some reels and other items on my recent US trip ands would normally have them in my "hand luggage" for security reasons (to prevent theft, not terrorism), but when I asked BA, I was told they had to be in my check in luggage.

Many things are perceived safe, if you have no access to them whilst the plane is in flight.

Hevi-shot in the hold sounds OK, but I would check.

We saw people at the first security check (after the bag check-in point), who had to go back to check-in and try to get an extra bag in the hold, because the contents were not permitted as hand luggage.

If that fails and you don't want to bin it, you have to pay to leave it in left luggage until you return.

Its not worth all that hassle.

Pavman,

Re: transportation and importation of heavy shot

You could always try getting it back "drugs mule stylee". Now without getting too personal but focusing on the logistics of bringing back the quantity required, you might want to have a word with PIN (aka "Eddie Stobart" - his prison name) to see if he is available for the weekend.

Watch out for the metal detectors though.

I hope this helps.

P.S.

I give this less than 10 mins before the mods whack it
