Dougy
You have dropped lucky with your purchase, a nice rifle. Has it had a rebarrel ? I would start off with H380. I had a good load with 39grn but using nosler bt. Look at the future supply of your components, and keep notes of EVERYTHING you do !!!, keep track of targets, groups and load changes. steve_b_wales
Contact Ade1971 on here. He bought my Sako 75 in 22-250 off me. I know he uses H380 with 55gr V max but I'm not sure what load he's using.
Dougy
Denis, get yourself a decent amount of new brass before you start. Couple of hundred remington, you don't need anything too special. You could go little extra and use lapua, but you only get upset when you loose one out in the field. If you go with 39 grn of H380 and Federal 210 primers you could expect to be getting near to 3800fps.
bigboodydaddy
I had a 75 Stainelss Varmint in 22-250z it liked 50's with H4895. It wouldnt stabilise 55's regardless of what I did with it. I got bored of it and had another barrel put on. Thanks for the info buddy
Walker570
Firstly what is the twist rate. I ask because I have some Barnes TTSX which my rifle will not stabilise.... needs 1-10 or faster. Been a few years since I shot and loaded a 22-250 but the calibre is one of the best twenty twos all round, vermin and small deer. It is also a very forgiving round to load for regards powders. I used Winchester760 way back when but you can't get it these days, VIHT N 140, RE 15, Varget, H4895 all have similar performance in the 22-250. Shot a lot of foxes with at 50 gr V Max, does a good job. In my 22 BR it didn't like being driven super fast the best accurate load was back off maximum by quite a bit but the foxes and one or two roe and munties didn't seem to notice the difference. Pays to load a series of three or five loads and shoot for a group with each load and see which your barrel enjoys eating.

reggiegun
Twist rate is 1in14 Sako 20" barrel 50gr V max 40gr H380 Lapua brass 3567fps
Dougy
Sako 20" barrel 50gr V max 40gr H380 Lapua brass 3567fps Seems a bit slow.

reggiegun
That's nearly 300fps below. Mmm How long is your barrel?
Dougy
26" and 24" but I still reckon that your velocity is slow, book says a 24" is 3742 with 39x 380 and 3897 x40 380. I don't think that 4" shorter barrel will drop the velocity you have.
Dougy
I don't dispute that there will be a variation in figures. But,,,, That's a big difference. Even if you discount a faulty Chrono, or even 2 faulty chrono's, book figures are not too far off. And totally agree regarding consistency and safety, and of course accuracy.
