super sharp shooter
I though i would have a go at reloading for my .243 rife as well as the shotgun. It surprised me how much difference a grain makes to the grouping. Edited August 6, 2017 by super sharp shooter

Spook
Out of curiosity do you use a Factory crimp die on your rounds once you have loaded them?
Walker570
Yes, every barrel is different, just like us humans, some like bitter, some larger. When starting a new lot of powder even the same powder I have used before, I run a test of a five cartridge load half a grain apart, then I put up a large sheet and five targets, I then shoot one from each load at 1.2.3.4.5, then run through it again until all the cartridges are used up. I normally zero on max power but for this I use minimum so the bullet strike .... by the way a bullet is what you refer to as a 'head' I assume.... is not obvious to me. I then walk down and check the groupings and yes the variation is surprising the first time you do it and often the very best group is well off maximum but take my word the fox/deer will not notice the difference. Love V Max, excellent bullet.
