chipper
Evening all, About to send a scope back to USA for repairs, i now have to fill in a 'commercial invoice' of which i have to provide a commodity code for the contents of the parcel. I have since looked up the code which is 9005800, but it states that i will need to apply for a 'Licence from the Export Control Organisation (ECO). Do i need to apply for such licence as the scope is not for permanent export ? Any advice greatly appreciated
dodeer
Is it not possible to send back for repair via the UK distrbutor?
oowee
Check with Border Force. I had to have an export permit for SA when I took a rifle (even though technically its not required). Border force provided the paperwork. Very helpful.
phaedra1106
Short answer is no, you don't need a commercial invoice or anything else to send a scope for repair, it's a repair of your goods not an export. Just make sure you fully document the return and keep copies of the paperwork you send with it, model, serial number etc., copy of your purchase invoice if you have one, return authorisation email or whatever you got from the manufacturer. A couple of photos wouldn't go amiss either just in case they try to charge you duty when it's returned. Obviously send it tracked and insured. Thanks for a very informative answer. p.s. i called HMRC and ECO, and they said they couldnt offer advice as 'its classed as a business decision'... filzee
On an invoice you can state return due to repair. If you also provide proof of the import i.e. The bill you paid to receive the goods. Only send copies though attached to the box
