BrowningB525
Hi all. Our family dog (dalmatian) has been acting strange for the past few months. We have had a lot of upheaval including moving house twice and having a baby. She was not herself and coming upstairs less etc. This came to a head when she growled at our 5 month old baby. We took the dog to the vet who looked her over and noted that her rear hips were causing her pain in certain positions. The vet suspected osteoarthritis and prescribed pain killers for 10 days to see if there was a change in her behaviour. After 2 days of pain killer, she is back to her old self (a horrible feeling that we didn't catch it earlier). We are waiting to go back to the vet to see what the next steps are. Basically, I know nothing about this and want the best for our dog. We are insured and a high vet bill wouldn't put us off any treatment options such as hip replacement. What happens next? Has anyone gone through this? What management options are there? Has anyone had a dog with a hip replacement?
Penelope
My two have Yumove as a preventative/supplement. http://www.lintbells.com/products/shopby/brand-yumove Edited September 12, 2017 by Penelope
Mice!
Do a search on here for yumove as Penelope has said there have been a few threads on it in the dog training section. After reading about it on here we put our old dog on them and they certainly made a difference. How old is your dog? Is she over weight? Hopefully you will get sorted. BrowningB525
I'm gutted I had a trade account with a yumove distributor but my account lapsed. I will have a look at threads discussing it. The dog is 4 and a healthy weight. She is well exercised. If anything I'm worried she may have been exercised too much too early. BrowningB525
Just spoke to my wife. Shed considered yumove but apparently it has a high purine content making it unsuitable for Dalmatian's that are probe to crystals in their urine. fern01
Having a quite large dog growling at a baby for any reason would make me very concerned.
BrowningB525
Having a quite large dog growling at a baby for any reason would make me very concerned. It did with us. It was completely out of character. We took her to the vet that day.

guzzicat
I had acupuncture years ago for a labrador from a vet in Hexham, the relief that dog got was amazing, he had joint pain.
