A spot of rabbiting (and a couple of foxes) with NV

I had a night out rabbiting last week and managed 47 and a fox - typical I didn't take the dvr and record any of it! So I went again at the weekend and managed 38 rabbits and 3 foxes. Had a bit of a dvr malfunction part way through whilst shooting the first fox which meant a few rabbits and fox No. 2 didn't get recorded (and others I had to take the shot quickly so no time for the dvr)

But anyway, here is the CZ455 17hmr and DaveG night vision in action.

hello wildfowler, how do you get on with the Dave G night vision, is that the one you attatch to the rear of your scope with screen, i tried one many years ago a bit heath robinson but still found using a screen distracting, he has made very good modifications now so i was looking to try one again.

It's a great bit of kit! Sometimes the screen can be a bit bright when you go from looking at the screen to looking out of the window to where you are going. That's my only comment really, other than that it is a superb bit of kit at a sensible price. Also, a side parallax scope would be better than the one I use!

I've shot well in excess of 1000 rabbits with it now though, many of which I wouldn't have if it was down to just a lamp.

thanks to reply, i have the hawke rimfire 4x12x50 scope on my 455 22, and i walk the fields rather than shoot from my motor, finding the red torch spooks the rabbits, seems like my hawke is not suitable  will have to keep torching

I've only just found this - thanks for posting it up.

I like to see people get the best they can get from the rig: If you put some shim material into the torch clamp, under the front end of the torch and over the back end so it aims/zero's slightly higher on your particular rifle you will have less foreground swamping out. You dont need much foreground illumination (which reflects off dusk coated grass/foliage) and will get better longer distance performance as a bonus.

Narrow strips of shotgun cartridge material or beer can for example, or even some layers of masking tape (not vinyl tape) makes an ideal shim.

Very good shooting and it's nice to see someone show they don't always get it 100%. :good:
