AberFowl
What's the rules on selling rabbits to a butcher? (in Scotland) I have been asked to help sort out some rabbits on land near me, it's over run, plenty of healthy cotton tails charging around. Now I estimate some good hauls of netted and headshot (air rifle and Rimfire) I would hate to have to waste and don't know of many who would take to eat. So what's the law on selling/giving to the local butcher??
ditchman
i think there were some EU reg's brought in several years ago which.butchers were told to adhere to....regards the selling of fur and feather....liecences and building regs were introduced....preperation (seperate storage areas)..etc...were needed...........so most butchers stopped the sale of fur and feather as it was too expensive meet the regs.... effectivly....all butchers who did this before the EU ruling dabbled in game dealing.....but now it is the preserve of only game dealers.... so you are going to have to look about........... in France they still sell fur and feather from shops.....................funny that .. Walker570
Finding the butcher is the first problem. Yes some will take rabbits, preferably head shot and cleanly gutted. Shop around.
Wooder
My cousin had a butchers shop, this was in the late 80s and early 90s, when we went ferreting and long netting all clean rabbits no shot, he couldn't get enough of them, used to sell like hot cakes! didn't seem to be any rules then, we used to paunch and skin. Lord Geordie
Chin up lads! Hopefully when out means out, we can start seeing rabbits in fur and pheasant in feather strung up outside the butchers in the markets again. If only.
