Harry136
Hi I have a Browning Maxus, I need to get it shooting straight. I have used all of my shims plus a couple more. I'm fairly broad at the shoulder and the gun still doesn't fit properly. See the pattern plate below. What solutions are there? Also due to the amount of shims there is now a quite ungainly gap behind the trigger guard, which would be nice to be rid of.
johnphilip
Try this test. Fit the tightest choke stand 16 yards and see how it looks .its realy hard to tell with a pattern plate .it does look left a bit .but depends were you were pointing at the moment you pulled the trigger. Harry136
That was with a 3/4 choke at 16 yds.
figgy
Take all the shins out and find the one that gives the most cast, then sand down the the shim to make it more of a tapered wedge shape thinning out the thin side this will give you more cast. Or buy another shim the same and double them up to get what you need. People have been known to slip a piece of of bank credit card into one side of the shim to get more cast or drop etc. Hope this helps you get it right. I expect you already know that Browning give 2 shims as the max. I found on mine that using 2 reduced the threads showing from the stock bolt stiff nut to below that normally suggested so applied some thread lock to be on the safe side. figgy
Nope I didn’t know that. Thought you got more at least four.
wymberley
Yep, you get a fair few - one of each - not sure now, no longer have the gun - about half a dozen or so, but 2 fitted is the Browning stated limit.
Harry136
I'm thinking, custom shim or have the stock either steamed and bent or chiselled/fitted to the correct angle
figgy
Pack one side of the shim with bank card and see how it fits. If it’s good then put a dab of glue on and stick it to the shim.
cardigun
Have you had a good Coach watch your gun mount ? It is not good practice to try to make up for a poor mount by altering the gun. Just a thought.
Harry136
Its not poor mounting, its been checked. It really is just a case of the cast needing adjusting because i am so broad and this being a truely ambidexterous stocked gun
Kevin ashcraft
I have two maxus shotguns. Can't hit anything with either. @1600$ each. They look cool sitting in the corner. I can hit everything with my 299$ Mossberg pump Has anyone cut the stock off at a angle since we can't buy thicker shims?
