MirokuMat
Hi all, I'm looking for a 20 SxS to add to the collection and there is a Williams W J (Hereford) for sale not too far from me. I searched the forum with nothing matching this make and even on Google I've not been able to find any information on them. I would be grateful for any insight or information you might have. The spec of the gun is: Barrel:28 " Stock:14 ¼" Chokes:1/2 & 3/4 Weight:5lb.8oz. Chamber:2"3/4 Ejection:NO Serial #:313 Stock #:161210/002 Many thanks in advance. matone
It`ll be a `trade` gun no doubt,W J Williams retailed it but someone in Birmingham made it,as is the case with most British guns. Hth.
Westley
The 2 3/4" chambers are a bit unusual in a 20 bore of that weight, has it been re-proofed ? As already said, it was probably made in 'The Trade' and the name applies to the retailer. There are a lot of 'Webley's' out there !
JJsDad
Had a look through Nigel Brown`s `British Gunmakers` Vol 2 and there is no record of a W J Williams. Plenty of Williams recorded, mainly from the Birmingham area, but no W J and no Williams shown as being in Hereford. As already suggested the most likely origin is that it was made by the Birmingham trade for a hardware shop in Hereford who paid a few shillings extra to have their details engraved on it. English boxlock non-ejectors are not fetching good money through shops at present so dependant on condition and price it could be a bargin, but dont hope to P/X it in the next few years as dealers just cant shift them. vmaxphil
If you go to look at it check the chokes as at that age they may have been opened up
