Wingman
Hi all Friends of ours have a small holding about 17 acres it’s mainly used for horses, they keep pigs and chickens. They have problems with foxes and rabbits and have asked if I would come over for a wander with my shotgun and try and control things to some small degree. The land doesn’t have any public footpaths and is adjacent to another large field that is also privately owned. The nearest road is behind their house about 500 meters. I wanted to ask if their is anything else I needed to consider before I take up the offer and help out. I was planning to speak to the adjacent landowner but other than that I think it seems fine to shoot on but wanted to get some advice from you guys! thanks. silver pigeon69
I would say its fine (i presume you have insurance BASC, CA etc), but would probably use an air rifle for the rabbits. One shot from a shotgun and everything within the 17 acres will scarper! Edit- Unless its a moderated 410! Walker570
I take it this is a concerted vermin control effort, not just a chance to wander round with a shotgun(no offence intended). Personally if I was to do it, I would put up a high seat in a good spot with a good view and cover the ground with a moderated 17HMR. Without seeing the ground I cannot advise further obviously as everywhere is different.
Wingman
To be entirely honest it’s a bit of both. Bit of a wander round and some not too serious vermin control and yes I have BASC insurance (for what it’s worth).

Brad93
You will quickly require a rifle I’d say. I’d put in for a Firearms certificate with a 22LR or a HMR.
Medic1281
I shoot around horses quite a lot, no big issues apart from them being nosey and getting in the way. After the first couple of shots they barely flinch. That’s with shotgun or rifle
Brad93
If they can see you and associate the noise then they don’t mind
