I first met Sydney when they had space in the Westley Richards factory in Grange Road, Selly Park, Birmingham, always friendly and had time for a chat, then they moved to Alvechurch, I don't remember seeing Albert too often there, but remember the machinist who worked for them, though I don't remember his name? I used to call in for a chat or to buy a few boxes of Three crowns cartridges and a look at the guns they had in various stages of construction, and the ones in for repair or to sell.

It was at the Alvechurch factory when I first met Robin, I think he was apprentice then? They were all really nice people and always had time to speak to visitors!...........This must have been around 40 years ago?

I recall drooling over their Supreme Deluxe model SLE's and even handling a unique pair of 20 bores made to commemorate some royal event, that slips my mind, if I recall correctly they were fitted into an Ostrich Skin covered motor case?

I also recall Robin once showing me a beautiful Boss O/U, asking what I thought it was worth? When I told him it was beautiful and must be worth a fortune...........he then informed me the gun only had 19 thou wall thickness! So it needed new barrels!

Given a choice of Purdey, Boss or Holland and Holland guns.....I would plumb for an A A Brown Supreme Deluxe SLE every time! In my opinion their guns are at the pinnacle of English Gunmaking!

Glad to hear Robin's son has finally picked up the A A Brown baton........though he has years left in him yet, it would be a great pity if this best of English gunmaking firms name ended with Robin.
