SNAKEBITE
I think it was a good story! I know foxes can be destructive and need controling but when you see things like that it makes you wonder why people just shoot then for the sake of it, because they are there sort of thing. BSA Shaun
Yep it's in the Metro too. Colleague of mine was reading it and pointed it out. Amazing really what they can do, nature is a wonderful thing. But I did mention to him that if it started stealing chickens anytime soon the only column it would be in is the obituary
Peter_HMR
Slightly off topic but has anyone seen swimming pheasants before Theres a island on one of the lakes i shoot (huge lake) and pheasants are reared on it for game shoots and i dont know how true this is but i think phesants can only fly for like 8 seconds then glide and takes them a couple of hours to regain they're strength but anyway i seen a cople of them swimming in the water stragest thing i ever saw we stopped on an island alongside for our lunch and one was swimming in the bay so i rowed over to it and grabbed it out of the water broke its neck and took him for tea Heard of deer swimming onto islands as well but that wouldnt really suprise me. BSA Shaun
For a bird with a small wing area relative to body size, pheasants fly well, and make up with rapid wing beats what they lack in wing area. In full flight a pheasant may reach 35 to 45 miles per hour. They are not long distance flyers, several hundred yards is about average. The pheasant’s leg muscles are well adapted for running, and this is the bird’s primary method for evading danger.
JohnGalway
But I did mention to him that if it started stealing chickens anytime soon the only column it would be in is the obituary That's usually what changes most peoples minds to be honest. Get someone who's never had animals/fowl/whatever. Cute foxy come in and runs amok. Foxy no longer regarded as cute. They'll never become extinct, unless as I've said in other posts, there's a widespread and ruthless campaign. Which there won't ever be, and rightly so. Controlling numbers is no bad thing when you see the mangey ones, bad way to go. Healthy level of foxes result in healthier foxes, more food for all and less hassle for farmers and shoots. I do actually like foxes, I just know firsthand the damage they can do, so I try to keep them in check. I don't fool myself into thinking I am/can/want to cull them all. Everyones gotta live sure, foxy included. (I was initially going to post; Fox eats egg, fox eats goose, crocodile eats fox... Maybe want to break the croc to geese first though )

With you 100% on that, I like foxes too, but if they have to be killed then so be it, respect for your quarry is very important IMO, if its doing no harm then leave it alone

berettaman1
I think it was a good story!I know foxes can be destructive and need controling but when you see things like that it makes you wonder why people just shoot then for the sake of it, because they are there sort of thing. year spot on Snakebite, I, in my younger days was called out to kill foxes that were living under garden sheds and under allotments sheds etc by various councils , and this awakened in me the fact that even foxes or rats , were only trying to survive, against a hostile enviremont , I have no problem whith you guys out there taking out foxes you cant just say oh, there is nowt on the telly I will just swan out and take out a few foxes , and be happy, No, I know its not that that simple, and know when youve been out , freezing your socks off sometimes when your soaking wet, and youve come home and the wifes in bed and you have to make yourself a f-----ng hot drink and try to warm yourself up before you retire for the night, You my fellow shooters, have something that many visitors to this forum will never really understand, you my friends , have my utmost respect! JohnGalway
Where have my pictures gone? Had put up some of the german magazine. Is that not allowed by the moderators perhaps?? If you upload your pictures to Photobucket first, then link them from Photobucket to PW they'll stay up. Pictures uploaded directly from users computers seem to disappear. At least that's my understanding of the situation, try it that way HH
