The plastic coated will wear when you get things wrong, so perhaps that is a minor advantage, never seen a cleaning rod not plastic or paint coated, but consider a boar guide just the same! That .17 bore is tiny and takes care and time to clean effectively. I get the impression few bother to clean their ..22lr, I can understand that to some extent if they are dedicated sub sonic and lead only ammunition, but mine get cleaned regularly, if nothing else the propellant is filthy!
