rec-baller
Just wondering if anybody else uses one of these scopes as ive just bought the simmons whitetail classic 6.5 - 20 x 50 Has anybody got any comments on them, any problems , i intend to use it on a .17hmr
A Sick Old Man
Hi Mate, They are ok for what they are, and that is a budget scope that is not at the bottom of the heap. But then is no where near the top either, I would work out what range your going to shoot, then ask yourself if your going to shoot at night? I shoot out to 150m with my .17HMR and shoot at night with it, so I got a Swarvo (Exy ) it is terrific in low light and is very clear. With My .22LR I shoot out to 100m and seldom use it at night, so I got a Simmons, it does the job and anything better would be a bit of an extravagant waste, why spend more on the scope than you would on the rifle? I do not think you will go wrong with one, All the best
08shooter
i have used my brother in laws and i thought the optics were pretty good but then thats just my opinion.i have seen a lot worse used on some hmrs and they do the trick
dazza
I have a Simmons on my .22lr and I'd recommend them the optics are very good (gun is unloaded)

Sorry to burst your bubble mate but Simmonds WTC are not budget scopes Although i paid around £135 for mine (From America) it is worth alot more than that

leeboy
I dont consider them a budget scope. I find mine to be excellent. I've had it 3 years or so and would highly recommend it. I did get mine extremely cheap over the internet from a gun shop in Waco Texas. Its been used on several guns from air rifle to rimfire to .243 I think its very good quality and the optics are fine. Ok it may not be a £1000 swaro but I've never seen the need for that sort of thing. I'd happily buy another. Leeboy
A Sick Old Man
Ok Ok I am sorry they are not a budget scope, but price wise they are not at all expensive for the quality you get, http://www.opticswarehouse.com/acatalog/co...ons_Scopes.html Compared to say http://www.opticswarehouse.com/acatalog/Leupold_Scopes.html Or these http://www.opticswarehouse.com/acatalog/Pe...pic_Sights.html Leeboy I am glad you do not see the need for a Swarvoski, I will take your advice on board an dispense with my worthless bit of kit right away :( YIS Sick

dazzyboi
They dont do the 6.5-20 Simmonds WTC in the UK i think, thats why its a good choice :( and for £105 + any custom charges! bargain

leeboy
Leeboy I am glad you do not see the need for a Swarvoski, I will take your advice on board an dispense with my worthless bit of kit right away :( YIS Sick If I was loaded I'd have a mega expensive scope. I'm certainly not suggesting people shouldn't spend however much they want on a scope. I know it is advised to spend as much on the glass as you do on the gun, I've just never really been convinced. If I can happily do the job for a coupla hundred quid I'm a happy man. Dazzyboi, i think you are correct. I think the WTC 6.5-20x50 became unavailable here about 5 years ago (ish) When they were on sale here they retailed about £260. I got mine in a sale at an American gun shop for $97. !!! And for some reason I was never charged any import duty which was even more of a bonus. Leeboy
lazza
I too didn't see the point in having an expensive scope, I thought the one I had was perfectly adequate. That was until I bit the bullet and bought an expensive one, I could then see the difference. It's really obvious just before dark when you can hardly see, or on the lamp, you look through the scope and you can see clearly. However it's what your happy with, but there is a big difference in quality and price.

jcbruno
if you want a scope in that price range buy a bushnell simmons are pure **** i put one on my dads 308 browning safari bar for him and the danm thing didnt even have enough graduation in the dial to bring it on target so we put it on a old 243 and the light recoil of a 243 shook the lens loose on the range i woul not give a simmos scope to a terrorest
A Sick Old Man
The Simmons WTC I was recomeneded to get was the 1.5x5 / 20. when I first saw it I thought it would be **** But now I have used it I must say its bloomin good for the money. http://www.airgunsport.com/products.asp?P_ID=110 I have seen them for sixty quid in UK, for a .22RF shooting out to 100m its a very good scope for the money. And its not bad in low light which surprised me, but trust me its pretty good. With regard to your nightmare JC I had a lens fall out inside a Swarvo once, it was repaired free with a lot of appologies, I guess anything can go wrong. I wonder how many Simmons products fail, mind you if they do you wont get a lifetime gaurantee with one. You can pick up a Zeiss 3-9 x40 Conquest in the States for $400 odd, with the current rate thats ?200, I would always recomend to save that bit more and go for real quality glass.
