May have an opportunity to get a couple of pups, but worried i might be over doing it Any comments and advice would be welcome Cheers
Mrs Sweepy
hi we are no experts. but me and mr sweepy took on two pups .not from the same litter .nor from the same breed .and differant sex .and yes it is hard work and commitment .will they be kennel dogs or live in the house .both of my dogs are kept outside.i know for a fact if they had been house dogs .i would have by now been carted of to the mad house (but then i am a bit of a clean house freak)will it be down to you to exercise and train both .if yes then this is where the time and commitment come in especially if you are like us new to it all .you will not be able to train them together.both will have to be trained separately.also you will have double the vet bills .i think we have just been unlucky this last year but we seem to be at the vets about once every two months with one of them .but thats the way it gos sometimes .but after all this said and done WE WOULD NOT HAD IT ANY OTHER WAY . its been hard but its been fun .both my dogs are year old now and as i type this they are both cuddle up together on my patio .and the gundog training well its most probs going to take us that bit longer having two to train .but as long as we get the result we want at the end we in no rush. like i said i am no expert this is just my view on it .hopefully someone with more experience will be able to help you soon xxxx suzy

I will give it more thought. The dogs will be kennelled, misses would have em in the house so i had to compromise !!! At the mo they maybe from the same litter though i aint seen em yet, waiting to go and as for training well that will be down to me too. Blimey now i'm getting worried, i have almost talked myself out of it. Come on people, there must be someone that could offer some expert advice. What about NTTF, can you shed some light please. Thanks
new to the flock
In all honesty I would suggest that you only train one puppy at a time. You will find that there are many time constraints that you never realized existed . Training one dog is difficult enough, and you will need to focus all of your attention to the task. Miss Suzy and her Husband are in the most favourable conditions possible for raising and training two young pups at once. And they have done a fabulouse job through their dedication. whitey
Hi Pantheman, I think I'm right in reading from what you've written that you're going to go for a single puppy now. If this isn't the case, I would be more than happy to provide you with stories of my own mistakes that I have made in buying and trying to train two puppies at once, if you're still wavering. As you may have gathered, I'm not a 'dog expert' as you put it, but I do own two ten month-old black Labs, and it has been quite an interesting journey so far! Popgun
I would stick to 1 if i were you cockers are little ******* they will have you in fits of laughter, the best advice i can give is to make the training fun if you get wound up they won't respond at all i think they need more time to train than most other breeds. i wish you the best of luck remember keep it fun

MadSpringer
1 cocker is like having three kids at the same time. ! Well put Mike! But you forgot to mention that's when they are fully trained All I can add is that if this is your first dog I would suggest getting a bitch and take your time with the training, keep it interesting and above all make it fun for the dog and yourself. Now do some research and find a good litter and join the rest of us Cocker owners at the funny farm Cheers
