Whitebridges
Last season I used Eley Alphamax 36g bismuth 4's for inland mallard, they worked a treat. I hardly had a runner, and they were not shot up. I paid £112 a hundred! Need to get some in for the coming season and was going to go for the same again unless anyone has any thoughts on anything better. I don't like cheaper steel carts and thought I might try hevi-shot. Gun is chambered for 3in carts. Any thoughts on options and prices would be much appraciated, thanks in advance.
MC
Hevi shot is the finest non toxic around bar none, however it will be slightly more money than £112 a hundred. If you are only shooting shooting inland duck and find bismuth OK then I would stick to it. I personally have never had any joy with Bismuth and use steel in 31/2" cartridges or Hevi shot. Try the Gamebore Hi speed steel 3 1/2" 42g at £4.40 for 10- you wont be dissappointed If not the Hevi-shot starts at £14.00 for 10 for a 29g load! Whitebridges
Thanks for the advice lads. I'm gonna try a few hevi-shot to see how I get on. I'll probably get them from Jimmy Ling. Better start saving!!
henry d
Move to Scotland and shoot inland with lead..........probably the cheaper option ! :(
Whitebridges
Lol. henryd, if it was left to me I would spend a great deal more time north of the boarder. Who came up with this non toxic ******** anyway? We've got four inland ponds and shoot pheasants close to the pond. I've told the guns that they should shoot non-toxic. I can do little more. I've also mentioned there is supposed to be more checking of shot duck by defra to see if lead was used. To me eye the whole thing is unworkable in the field when you have no way of knowing what might spring up, as is often the way with with true rough shooting. Suffolk shooter
I'll have to check, but I am pretty sure that the shop down the road from me was selling hevi-shot for £10 for 10 cartridges so £100 for 100 cartridges. As I say I will check, but believe this to be right. Remington Nitro steel in BB's for Geese and 4's for Duck did me ok last year. DOLLSEYES
Never used Hevi-shot,too expensive!Bismuth o.k,but last season i picked up some R.C steel 32grams no4.They were one of the best steel loads i've used. Also used "Gamebore Steel Fibre" in 3" 32gramms no4 for duck and was that impressed i've just bought 1000 last week @ £270.For geese "Hull Solway 3" no 3".All these cartridges were used inland and on the foreshore. Can't wait for the 1st Sept!!!!!!!!!!! pavman
most of my duck are shot at 35 to 40 yards or closer, and Remmington supa steel is ace for this at around 1500 FPS , beyond this range you need to move off steel IMHO unless in my 10 bore which will kill at 50 yards as i load BB and the bigger pellets travel better with more energy due to the weight, I always shot a big pellet at fowl 3 or bigger anything beyound 50 yards I cant hit anyway I have tried hevi shot and would like some to re load for the 10 bore but would not punch it at close range duck as IMHO its not required
