twenty
I have been following the progress of a Bullfinch nest in thick bramble on the shoot estate grounds, the clutch steadily built on a daily egg laying basis, and the last time I checked there were 4 eggs. As the hen was not sitting, it was apparent the clutch was incomplete, From a reasonable distance a few days later, it could be seen that the incubation had started.................but unfortunately on a mooch yesterday, it was obvious that the nest had been ragged by something, on checking, the nest had been tipped to an angle, 2 eggs were on the ground with 2 others stone cold in the nest..................hopefully they will have another attempt. Walker570
Jays and magpies don't do such things. The 'learned ones' say so.
panoma1
Bullfinch are lovely looking birds! However I believe, years ago, there were so many of them around the Evesham/Stratford Warwickshire area orchard owners (because of damage to fruit tree buds/blossom) used to pay people to shoot em?
