This is the bit I particularly like.

"In Britain, we have been sucked into the socialists' 'cradle to the grave' ideology. We delegate responsibility for our health, education and wellfare and as a Nation, have been largely guilty of conceeding our self-determination, too. We were the mother of democracy but we have failed keep our eye on the ball. The people elected to represent us, to 'work' for us, are now our masters'. We meerly pay the taxes to keep ourselves subjugated.

In the States' there is a much larger reliance on local democracy. If, as a community, you don't like people dropping litter or causing criminal damage, writing graffiti etc, you get to elect the Sherriff of your choice. And if he says he'll sort and he doesn't, he's out of a job next election. If you don't like the idea of murderers and child rapists getting parole, you can elect judges that will sentence them to death or a life that means life, behind bars. Even the town's Dog Warden has to stand up to public scrutiny at elections.

Bad people will do bad things, no matter what rules, regulations or laws are passed. It's your life, so why should anyone else be able to dictate how you choose to defend it".

If you ever stood for parliament Lefty 478 you would have my vote. Brilliant post. :D:oops::yes::)

Lefty great post, wish I could be so eloquent, I would like to thank everyone for their replies, civilized discussion promotes change for the better in my opinion. I for one am all for law and order, and pray for the day when I won't feel the need to keep a loaded firearm about, but until that day, I will do just that. So, is anyone else looking for to the startup of football season (FA Cup)? I won't tell who my favorite team is (my son is a Chelsea fan), that way I won't be hated here too much.

Wow just how many of the Ammendments to the Bill of Rights does this guy plan on abolishing? Illegal search and seizure, right to keep and bear arms, sheesh, what a loony tune, I'll just move to Alaska where hunting season is 365 days, 366 on Leap Years, black bear has no closed season so I am covered. If people don't like the United States of America, let them leave and live somewhere that has their ideals and beliefs.

You'd do better moving to Hawaii and just enjoying the place. I could cheerfully give up hunting if all I had to do was enjoy paradise on a beach with surf all year round. I love Hawaii...

Just reading some of the more exotic things in the paper. Apparently the UK has the world's largest DNA database (4m people) and there was a move to maybe use it to catch people littering. We also have police that can stop anyone right now in the name of terror. I think I will quote V (from V for Vendetta) here rather than George Orwell: "People should not be afraid of their governments; Governments should be afraid of their people."

Anyway, a very good post Lefty.
