Walker570
We have a glut of pears in particular and my wife asked for suggestions on using them. I suggested she make a pastry case in a 1 inch deep oven proof dish we had, peel and halve the pears and remove the centres with a melon baller. Lay them in the pastry case and then as I had just made some bulace jam, pour a whole jar over the top and put in the oven and cook. It turned out awesome. Might try it again this next weekend I would say that any plum jam would work but the bullace has a sharpish taste and worked well. Some thick cream added .......mmmmmmmmmmmm!! old'un
Pears make a lovely tasting wine, one of my favourite home made wines, that and banana wine.

Walker570
Now you drag me on to another subject..... We had some pearseco made for us last year...12 1/2 % and delicious. All our excess apples and pears have normally gone into making cider but the young man who makes it has a serious medical problem this year so i don't think any will be made. Pear vodka is a very nice drink and I have a bottle left over from last year but will be making another couple of litres this year.
