We usually have 2 or 3 working dogs, couple of pointers and a lab. Just wondering how people who have 6 or 7 dogs cope :( . How do you find time to house, feed, exercise and work so many dogs? During the season I hunt every Saturday and Sunday and find that 3 dogs is the maximum I need and would be combfortable managing when out . For example say you just want to take a walk with the gun on a summers night in the hope you might bag a rabbit or pigeon do you take all 6 or leave some at home? Neither seems sensible to me :good: Suppose it depends on the person, just curious :)

I have 9 at presant,

2 Labs- Bitch and Coal

1 Setter- Toad

1 Beagle- Smeagle

1 Jack Russel x- Cody

1 GSPointer- Bracken

1 Walker Hound- Paddy

1 Springer-Joey

1 Boarder Collie- Jenny

I usually hunt the Smeagle and Cody together if we are out shotgunning bunnies, other wise I usually only hunt oneof the dogs at a time. If out in the uplands for birds I run either Toad, or Braken when a pointing dog is in order. Coal, Bitch or Joey for flushing, ducks or just pigeons. Paddy for coons, an have started to work Cody for the long net.

As to exercising I have several large fenced dog yards, so I do not need to worry about getting everybody out everyday I usually put severel of them out together to play and exercise. However I will also take several for a walk at one time if we are just out for a run.

As for housing most a kenneled in their building 16x32 the runs range in size from 6x8 to 10x16. They also have outside runs that are 6x8. Dogs are all picked up morning and night and any other time there is a mess, with a wash down in the morning and evening. I usually have 2 or 3 at the house to live in aswell. There is a 24x36 run directly off the house that they can be turned directly in to let them play in aswell. The dog room, which also houses 2 chest freezers, is 12 x 14 and this is where their night time crates are, otherwise if in the house the have the run with us.

But you must also remember my full time job is my Children and my dogs.

Paul a Treeing Walker Hound is a scent hound used to run in my case raccoons and squirrels. They can also be used to run coyote, bears and big cats.

I borrowed this pic just to give you an idea. This hound is either on Cats or bears.

I will put some of Paddy up once things cool down some and I start here running again.

Roughshot,

I raise and train dogs so I usually have at least 5 dogs in our home/kennel. All our dogs are pointing type bird dogs.

We have two Gordons, two Ryman English Setters, and a Small Munsterlander on the grounds right now. No problems with the exercise, feeding ect. We also train and supply a lot of our clients dogs for them. We recently acquired some nice forest property in Potter /Tioga county Pa, USA where our main training facility is now located. Its all in how you set up your kennel and home that determines how hard or easy it is to manage your animals. Having the right amount of space/acerage really helps. The pavilion you see in the picture is set up so we can have an entire litter of pups housed in it safely.
