Heat lamp

Our springer is going to have puppies middle of February can anybody tell me if there are different temperature heat lamps I have look but can’t find what size we will need puppies will be born inside in the house all help appreciated.

if they are inside the house ....might not need it...........if so ....a 1000w-1200w infa red lamp suspended at a couple of feet above the litter

Hi Snow White the one I use on the pups has a 250 watt red bulb.

I had a litter of 7 springer pups last year and they was kennelled outdoors and on the days when it was a little warmer I would flick the switch and it would be 125 watt above them.

But in the evening it was turned back to 250 watt.

They come with a chain, just manually adjust the height above the pups depending on the room temperature at any time.

if you get the ceramic 250 watt heat lamps they are more robust than the red glass ones.

We use a 250 wat infrared bulb in the brood chamber and raise the height to reduce temperature. I leave a thermometer on the floor under the lamp which seems to match how the birds behave. I would have thought the same could be done for puppies albeit potentially aiming for different temperatures.
