ans thats where they should be - in the hands of the army, that type of rifle is only designed for 1 thing and they are not any good as a sporting rifle are they , but would be a whole lot of fun in the afgans start to attack :good:??? :(

tullyuk,

Actually, "that style" of rifle is gaining a lot of popularity in the states for varmint/vermin shooting. The AR series of guns has taken on a lot of popularity lately as accuracy has greatly improved. Bushmaster is one that comes to mind quickly. Anymore, you can get them with sub MOA accuracy, which in a .223 makes a great 300 yd prarie dog rifle. Since they are relatively lightweight, they make good calling guns for coyote and fox. And, they are fun to plink with at the target range.

I can't tell by the tone of your post so if I am misreading sarcasm forgive me and ignore the rest. But that attitude has lost gun rights across the world for years. Call it a paranoid mentality if you will. But first anti-gun groups lobby for true assault weapons as we have no 'need' for them. Then they go for assault type weapons as they look just like their big brothers and have some common features. Unfortunately the descriptions of 'assault type' can be vague and can begin to include some sporting weapons (such as semi auto shotguns and rifles). Then come handguns as no one really 'needs' to have a handgun except police. Since a handgun ban was effective, why don't we clamp down on other gun rights as well. We can create a registry of guns so that if one is used in a crime we know who's gun it was. And if we ever do ban guns entirely we will know where they all are to be comfiscated. At least the legal ones anyway.

Unfortunately, none of this reduces crime or makes anyone safer. It only restricts law abiding gun owners. A 'need-based' argument is a surefire way to loose gun rights.

Would you say that handguns have no business anywhere but the military?

Thanks,

Rick
