Baker Rifle

Recommended Posts

At one time didn't the gunsmith that used to be at the Royal Armouries in Leeds bespoke make some at a huge price? I forget his name. Bit of an odd fish to deal with. He used to stand at various arms fairs in the 1990s and so. I'd dispute the statement about the Sharpe novels. Anyone with an interest in the Napoleonic Wars will know of Rifleman Harris. As a kid I read his book by that real person "The Recollections of Rifleman Harris". There's also a similar book related to WWII "The Recollections of Rifleman Bowlby".

A former REME artificer and friend of mine is crazy about those  Baker rifles. He worked on the Sharpe series and made the replicas including the Sgt's volley gun. Great guy.

We sold a Volunteer version , different sights and checkering , That had been bought from a private owner  in Texas . The rifle was in very good condition having excellent clean bore  and looked to have been little used . Rumor was that the then Mexican Government had bought Baker rifles for their army and these were used at the Alamo , in what is now Texas . There is no proof what so ever that this particular gun any such connection , but it did make an interesting story .
