Covid Marshalls

I went to Cambridge for a bit of browsing and Christmas shopping. All quite civilised, sensible social distancing, masks where appropriate etc. But what is it with these covid Marshalls? People standing around holding boards saying “keep your distance”.  Who is paying for these or are they unpaid volunteers?

Should have gone to Oxford (but I'm biased) 😛

I was out and about in Shropshire all weekend and openly welcomed wherever I went (except for the match anglers on the Severn in Bewdley who were as miserable as they have always been)...

The rozzers and an ‘official’ turned up the other night at the restaurant where my OH waits on. Firstly they pointed out that the two chefs ( one of whom is the owner ) should be wearing masks in the kitchen, despite another ‘official’ putting it in writing some months ago that they didn’t need to due to the position of the kitchen within the restaurant. I would have thought it would have been mandatory from the outset.
Anyhow, they went on to criticise the staff for allowing clients who were obviously not from the same household ( tables of four which consisted of women only, all wearing wedding rings for example ) and said that whilst they appreciated what a difficult situation it was for them to monitor, they are expecting waiting on staff on minimum wage to police it! 😳It would be hilarious if it weren’t so outrageous! Have told OH to relinquish that responsibility to management, which she has told them she is doing.
The ‘official’ also stated that they ‘didn’t mind diners having one for the road’ when that is simply against all stated guidance.
Moral in the workplace is at an all time low.

I think that highlights the problems perfectly Scully, massive inconsistency and an expectation on people who’s job it shouldn’t be to act as the police.

A rotten situation all round

Quite, and a public who are intent on ‘getting round’ the rules rather than complying with them.
One customer had said to OH that ‘ we love eating here; it is our favourite restaurant’, to which the maitre de had replied ‘ well make the most of it, because if customer behaviour means he gets a £10,000 fine, it won’t be here for much longer.’ Maitre de can talk to customers like that. Customer just smiled apparently. 🤷‍♂️

Nice up here in Shropshire, no heavy handed policing. Hopefully it stays that way.
