My late friend John Wootters in Texas had a very poignant response in these circumstances. I remember him turning to his wife once when we received very poor service at an eating establishment south of Houston.  "Why talk about somebody that no longer exists woman".  as he stormed acroos the car park.  The only way to deal with such I am afraid.

This thread has brought back memories when a next door neighbour hammered on my door one Saturday afternoon he had tried to mend his toilet and now had water pouring down his stairs well three hours later and using my stuff l repaired the toilet as I was leaving he shut the door with out a thank you. He could not understand twelve months later when he was changing his bathroom sweet why I told him to ****off and shut the door in his face

Didn’t know I was supposed to be charging mates for helping out 🤷‍♂️

Always offered my help and support in times of need for free.

When I need something back I normally don’t have an issue.

Some people however do tend to try it on, they only ruin it for themselves because I simply won’t go help again.

Myself and another mate went to help a farmer/small holder friend of ours baling and loading hay about 2 summers ago.

We worked from 9am - 9pm in scorching heat, it was boiling and he was too tight to get and get us food kept saying we would crack on and work through, by the end of the day we were starving and told him he better get some bloody food in!

He suggested he stopped at the Chinese and buy us a £1 bag of those really rubbish chips they do at Chinese restaurants!!

At first I thought he was joking but he wasn’t 😮 ... unsurprisingly he has complained that I haven’t gone to help him with the hay for the last few years ... and I won’t be going ever again!

There are favors and there is taking the micky. If a friend asked me to look at his computer I would do it. If they asked me to build them a computer I would do it at cost plus a charge because it has gone above a favor (and by that I mean sourcing the parts etc.. as well). If a family member wanted a hand to do something at a weekend or an evening not an issue as long as it wasn't costing me anything exceptional. The OP was actually doing this as part of his business from the sounds of it. At best it should have just been the discount on the flooring OR a discount on labour - at best.

My mate who done our work done it as part of his business and I was happy to pay his rates as he wasn't ripping me off

Did you not say to the customer that you have already given them significant discounts and the suggestion of the above is quite honestly taking the P?

Sometimes people don’t realise they’re as bad as they are until a stern word 🤷‍♂️

O yes he knew he has it cost price plus my discount on the account and yes he knows the fitting is cheep, had a word this morning before I carried on and said he can get another fitter he he wasnt happy obviously he backed down and declined and was all.of a sudden happy with the cost of everything and not to rush the job

I think that's the best outcome. No need to fall out about it but a calm collected word of advice for the bloke to wise up and hopefully he is a bit more well mannered in future.
