walshie
We went for a spin in the boat earlier in the week. On the way out I saw what I thought was a submerged buoy. On closer inspection it was a jellyfish which I googled to be a barrel jellyfish. It was massive. 2-3ft across. Then we saw another and another. Apparently these swarms can number 100 or so but we went 8 miles up the coast and we saw them the whole journey, so this swarm was definitely more than 100. They aren't very dangerous to humans, but they'd put the wind up you if you were in the water with one. Anyone else seen anything like this? It was my first time and quite impressive. Down South
I’ve seen them on and off on the south coast over the years, IOW to Weymouth. They are big, size of a dust bin! In summer you quite often find lumps of translucent jelly on the low water line which I think are their decomposing bodies.
henry d
Yes a regular seasonal occurrence be wary of lion's mane jellyfish, their tentacles can come adrift on your fishing line and can be hard to see and still sting.
12gauge82
Yes I've seen hundreds of them on the west coast of Scotland. Along with a basking shark that approached me, it got within 5 metres and I've got to be honest, my bum twitched a bit 😂
